Policy Development and Research Manager

About the role

In this role you will lead our policy team seeking to challenge and change policy on cycling provision in the UK. Working with the policy and campaigns team to commission new research and capture emerging trends to inform our 3 years policy development plan.

Responsibilities

  • Keeping up to date with government policy on transport and infrastructure
  • Articulating and developing policy and propositions to build better cycle infrastructure, encouraging more people to feel safe cycling
  • Overseeing regular research activities to produce qualitative and quantitative data to help inform policy
  • Researching successful cycling policy developments in other European countries which could be tested in the UK
  • Line managing a team of 2 policy assistants
  • Identifying opportunities to build partnerships and work with regulators, policy-makers, local councils, campaign groups, volunteers, schools and cycling clubs
  • Scoping future opportunities and priorities for campaigning, lobbying, engagement and policy influencing
  • Analysing budgets and making recommendations
  • Ensure equality, diversity and inclusion are considered in all aspects of the charity’s work with research

Skills and Qualifications

Essential

  • An undergraduate degree
  • Expertise in gathering and using complex consumer, stakeholder, market insights and evaluation findings
  • Appreciation of issues of confidentiality and political sensitivity and ability to develop relationships of trust
  • Experience in training and facilitation of presentations to policy audiences, including at senior level
  • Experience of drafting policy briefs, submissions, ministerial letters

Desirable

  • A postgraduate research qualification in public policy
  • A keen leisure or club cyclist

Salary

Salary range for Policy and Advocacy adviser, depending on qualifications and experience £33,000 - £40,000.
