Community development/mobiliser officer

About the role

This role involves assisting communities to bring about social change and improve the quality of life in their local area, conducting community development work to actively engage communities in exploring reasons for unemployment, setting goals for improvement and responding to problems and needs through active participation.

Responsibilities

  • Organising focus groups and community meetings to fully hear and understand issues surrounding lack of work in specified communities
  • Identifying gaps and working with community activists to establish support groups
  • Facilitating the production of community engagement plans to counter unemployment identifying community assets, needs, opportunities, rights and responsibilities
  • In collaboration with local voices, devising and delivering initiatives that make a positive difference to the lives of the local residents and the communities in which they live
  • Researching behaviour change methods to maximise project success 
  • Building strong working relationships with local employers and training providers to create opportunities for work trials, volunteering and employment 
  • Working with partners to pilot social prescribing to improve community mental health
  • Equality and diversity - ensuring that involvement opportunities are available to all community members regardless of age, gender or nationality
  • Preparing and presenting impact reports at regular intervals to a range of stakeholders

Skills and Qualifications

Essential

  • Highly skilled in building positive relationships at all levels
  • Knowledge of participatory assessment tools
  • Confident public speaker
  • Proven communication skills in listening to others
  • Advocacy and networking skills
  • Ability to manage own caseload effectively

Desirable

  • Working knowledge of social prescribing
  • Experience of working with people with additional needs
  • Second language skills

Salary

Salary range for Community Development Officer, depending on experience £16,000 - £36,000.

Additional information

An enhanced DBS check is required
Applicants must have access to the use of a vehicle.
