Policy and advocacy adviser (Refugees)

About the role

In this NGO job, you will be part of the team shaping policy on rights for refugees arriving in the UK. Working with the policy and campaigns team to influence the government and other stakeholders the policy adviser leads on improving access to opportunities for work and safe housing for the refugee community.

Responsibilities

  • Keeping up to date with government policy on refugees
  • Using evidence from a range of sources to analyse policy challenges and develop creative, practical policy solutions
  • Contributing to developing policy and advocacy strategies for the 3 year planning cycle
  • Facilitating agreement between diverse stakeholders
  • Direct engagement with government departments and officials
  • Providing advice to senior managers and decision makers
  • Delivering oral briefings and presentations, including training for colleagues
  • Building relationships with a range of people holding different views
  • Influencing and negotiating to bring about positive change

Skills and Qualifications

Essential

  • An undergraduate degree
  • Good written and verbal communication skills, to present complex information to different audiences in a clear and accessible way
  • Effective research and analysis skills (including quantitative and qualitative)
  • Good organisation skills, to track priorities, work to deadlines and manage projects
  • Commitment to developing and delivering policy to improve the lives and experiences of refugees
  • Ability to quickly analyse and assess suggested government propositions and approaches
  • Resilience and adaptability to respond to last minute changes from government 

Desirable

  • Experience of working with the media

Salary

Salary range for Policy and Advocacy adviser, depending on qualifications and experience £26,000 - £34,000.

Additional information

Must have the right to live and work in the UK.
