Operations Manager

About the role

The Operations Manager has an important role at management level, coordinating supply chain, technology and transportation to ensure our projects operate smoothly. As well as planned activities, the operations team facilitates our emergency response programmes, often working in challenging environments such as conflict zones, natural disasters or temporary camps.

Responsibilities

  • Administering invoice approval and payment processes
  • Procurement of project materials following correct organisational procurement procedures
  • Managing inventories for warehouses across multiple sites
  • Overseeing fleet repair and servicing schedules
  • Supervising buildings maintenance staff to ensure project sites are kept in good working order
  • Procurement and maintenance of communications equipment including satellite phones, laptop computers and radios
  • Procurement and maintenance of electricity sources for remote sites, for example solar panel systems or diesel generators
  • Managing a team of 6 support staff
  • Delivering quarterly training workshops for operations team members
     

Skills and Qualifications

Essential

  • Degree level qualification in business, management or a related subject
  • 3 years’ experience in an operations team 
  • Experience of managing staff
  • Good technical and mechanical aptitude, particularly working with vehicles and generators
  • Strong communication skills and a proven ability to negotiate with suppliers
  • Advanced IT skills, including procurement systems and internet set up
  • Problem solving attitude
  • Ability to keep calm in a crisis
  • Full clean driving licence
  • Fluent in French and English
  • A commitment to our mission to ensure that everyone has access to clean water

Desirable

  • MSc in Operations or Logistics and Supply Chain Management
  • Extensive experience of driving off road vehicles in a variety of terrains including sand and flooded areas
  • Experience of setting up new project sites

Salary

Salary range for Operations Manager working remotely across multiple project sites, depending on qualifications and experience £32,000 - £42,000.

Additional information

Regular trips to field sites will be expected for monitoring and training.
